Access to the Bohemian Grove, summer arts camp of the San Francisco Bohemian Club, is restricted. However, for the 1912 performance of Hadley's The Atonement of Pan, women were permitted to attend and the crowd grew to 1500 (Canfield p.130).

Hadley had undergone surgery for lung cancer earlier in 1933 (Canfield p.294).
